XGAMES 2011:
Last year saw the first ever Winter X Games Europe, which was hosted in Tignes in France. This year the event returned triumphantly to the same place and was the first X Games event for the all-new elite snowboarding team, The Burn Units.
The competition kicked off on Wednesday March 16 and finished on Friday March 18 with some of the finest European talents in the skiing and snowboarding worlds taking to the slopes and pipes in what was a spectacular three days of action.
The winner of the men's snowboarding Superpipe was Louie Vito of the USA. Chas Guldemond took gold in the slopestyle with an astonishing 99.33 points, an XGames Record! Congrats to all medallists and thanks to everyone who came and absolutely MADE Winter X Games Europe 2011!! See you next year!
As well as Burn being an official partner for the games, we were also delighted to see the performances of newly added Burn Units Mathieu Crepel – who competed in the Super Pipe – and Oslo ripper Ulrik Badertscher who took on Slopestyle. Of course we also had Norwegian sensation Ståle Sandbech, who took 6th in the slopestyle, CONGRATS!. That's not mentioning Arthur Longo, either, who lined up against Ståle and Mathieu in the Super Pipe.
The competition wasn't JUST where it was at, either. There was a whole heap of different things to get involved in and with, proving that the X Games is simply more than just about the games themselves. There was the X-Fest Zone, which was home to all the partner brands, including Burn. We had rider signings, meet and greets and excitingly 2manydjs played on Thursday evening, as part of a Burn Studios show. It was a show stopping performance.
This year, Burn also supported the Looking Sideways Project, which celebrates the creativity which surrounds and defines boardsport culture. The project aims to explore the fringes of the extreme sports world, whether that be photography music or anything else creative.
Looking Sideways was situated on the terrace of the Loop this X Games with a mini-ramp, live art displays and also music performances from Ben Howard on Wednesday and DUKE at the Burn after party on Thursday. Jettblack and the Truck Fighters finished things off on Friday night.
See you all next year!
